On Friday, November 13, 2009, Colombia captured four members of the Venezuelan National Guard on Colombian territory. Nevertheless, Colombian President Alvaro Uribe decided that the country would send them home in a gesture aimed at lowering diplomatic tensions with the neighbor country.
Mauricio Romero, political science professor at Bogota's Javeriana University, said that "By sending the four Venezuelans back, Uribe is trying to mark a contrast between himself and Chavez, who looks belligerent by comparison..."
